Collaborative and Community Partners
Conference Portal brings teachers, instructional specialists, trainers and consultants to a Web-based community of doers.
Life-long learning is nice, but few teachers enjoy the luxury of even being able to "read for fun," let alone spend time on long-term intellectual self-improvement.
The day-to-day stresses, the red-tape dictated busy-work, and the non-instructional demands of a functioning bureaucracy (oxymoron?) gobble spare moments the way that elephants eat peanuts; i.e., inhaling them.
Collaboration and Community Sharing makes sense from an ethical and moral vantage point, but the math of one teacher's work being used by hundreds or thousands of other teachers provides incredible yield.
At one time, teaching was a solitary job. The "school marm" labored in a one-room country schoolhouse, chopping wood, carrying water from the well, whatever. And these dedicated young women lived as a border with a chaperone family, and could not even marry without loosing their job.
The expectation that teachers would "do-whatever-it-takes" to teach their student emerged from these roots. But, teachers must enter the "age of professionalism" and deserve to be fairly compensated for their expertise, and for their labors.
Conference Portal creates the idea interchange. Joining together, collaborating, sharing...develops a vibrant community that provides technology and tools of professional development.
